Taking a Pet Overseas

May 24th, 2013

For some travelers, they simply cannot leave their pets at home.  When they travel abroad, the pet comes with them.  Traveling with a pet can be tricky.  There are certain stipulations, regulations as well as laws to follow in order to have a safe, comfortable first class traveling experience for you and your furry friend.

According to the U.S. Department of State for travel, they offer this specific tip for international travelers with pets. “If you decide to take your pet with you when you go abroad, check with the embassies of the destination countries as to specific requirements that must be met before a pet may be brought into the country. Many countries have strict health, quarantine, agriculture, wildlife, and customs 6870118_srequirements and prohibitions. The Department of State has compiled a list of foreign embassies and consulates but their contact information may also be found on the Country Specific Information for each country.”

On their website, they have a list of foreign embassies and consulates. You can find that by clicking here. The biggest tip we can offer is to communicate. Before you travel overseas, make sure you consult with the airline, hotel, embassy or any other important agency in order to fully understand the process of bringing a pet overseas. The last thing you want is to make an assumption, only to find out you cannot travel as you originally thought.
