When To Fly First Class, When To Fly Business Class

When you are traveling abroad on business, there is no doubt that you want to avoid economy. It is cramped, inconvenient, and may not even offer food. The only choice for a discerning businessperson is either first class airfare, or business class travel.

Although there is no defined rule stating when one will be superior to the other, there are several situations which can help you decide. Before booking your airfare, consider whether any of the following applies to you.

You Are Traveling a Long Distance for the First Time

If you have not taken transcontinental flights for the first time, you are well advised to choose first class airfare. The seats in first class are more likely to recline fully and you will almost certainly have more legroom, which ensures that you will be as comfortable as possible. In addition, first class flights have flight attendants to help you with anything you need, including questions about airport logistics and anything else you may need to know.

You Need to Be Productive on the Plane

First class will provide many of the same options, but business class may give you an edge in productivity. Although this is not universally true of all carriers, business class typically has the same base amenities as first class. The difference is generally in the extras that you are given: first class may provide silk pajamas and a feather pillow, plus a merino wool blanket. If you are traveling for productivity, you don't need these extras, and they may only be a distraction. Business class airfare gives you what you need to work without anything extraneous.

You Have a Medical Condition

If this is your situation, first class travel is a must. The more comfortable seats will help stop any symptoms you may experience, and flight attendants will certainly be trained to assist you with monitoring any discomforts caused by air travel. In addition, the more personal service will help you if you do experience pain.

You Are on a Tight Time Schedule

Although either business or first class will help you get to your destination faster than economy, business class airfare may be superior here. Most airlines will allow first class travel and business class to check in early and provide special lounges and luggage accommodation, but it is not uncommon for business class airfare to provide even further expedited service.
